Career Training – What Are Your Options?

There are many ways that you can get the income that you wanted from the career that you wanted. However, remember that if you really want to be a successful, you will get to have good career training.

There are a lot of ways that you can get that training. The first one is to learn all the skills that you should have on your own. However, make sure that you will read only books and guides that are created by some of the best experts in your area, because that way you will be sure that you will learn the things right. The second way is to start working in the particular area and later you will learn all the things that you will have to do in order to become more successful. In addition, that way you will be able to gain some experience in the career you have chosen.

The last way is to try some of the training courses that are available all over the world. There you will learn exactly what it takes to practice the career you have chosen. In addition, due to the improvement of the Internet technologies you will be able to take remote course from some of the best experts in the world, without leaving your home.

Getting the career training is one good thing. However, exaggerated promises are the counter productive and you know that building a rewarding career is one challenging process, and in this economy there is not any “magic bullet” for the success. You require a straight talk about the career & jobs you have available to you. Thus, what you must expect from the career education program? You need to expect to gain the job skills and that is why you can go to the career school to learn all the new skills as well as increase the value in job marketplace.

What About A Plumbing Course Or Electrical Training

If you are looking to change career and possibly retain to get new skills and qualifications then you should see if a plumbing course or electrical training suit you.

The chances are that you are applying for more than one job. So it is worth having a standard CV prepared. You might want to make a capsule version as well, for those times when the advertisement asks for no more than ‘brief details of past experience’ or the like.

But don’t send your standard CV out unthinkingly with every application. Very often it is better to produce a one-off version, tailor-made to the requirements of the job advertised. If you own a word processor you can adjust the standard pattern with little trouble to fit the specifications each time. It is far easier to adapt an existing CV than to devise one from scratch.

A CV should follow a fairly standard layout. Look through all the examples given here and work out the form best suited to you and your present application. No two people have the same history and background. You may have to combine features from several of the examples before producing a CV that is just right.

A CV should be as long as, and no longer than you need to tell prospective employers what they want to know. If possible, keep it down to one side unless you have a great deal of relevant experience. And, once again, make sure to set it out clearly and neatly. Send it off only when you are satisfied with its clean, fresh appearance. If it is badly dog-eared, or poorly photocopied, it will look like a hand-me-down from a previous (unsuccessful) application. This is not the impression you want to create.

DESCRIBING YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE

Put yourself in the shoes of the personnel manager reading a CV once more. What is the most important thing you are looking for in your potential recruits? Unless you have advertised specifically for school or college leavers, it is undoubtedly work experience that counts for most. It follows that the most important part of the CV will be the section describing previous jobs and the skills acquired there.

There are two ways of going about this. The first, and more traditional, is to present a set of ‘job descriptions’: you list the jobs you have held and describe briefly what each job entailed – for an example, see the overleaf. The second way, increasingly popular nowadays, is to present a ‘skills profile’. Here the emphasis is less on a job-by-job account of your working life, and more on the set of skills you have acquired. Also check out the blog on CV Tips – where you will find some more helpful advice.

Here are some tips for writing a successful Curriculum Vitae (CV). I call these “tips” because there’s only one rule for writing a great CV: there are no rules! Keep these tips in mind, but remember, you are selling yourself, and no one knows the product better than you.

The shorter the CV, the better, preferably one or two pages

A CV should answer the question “Why should I hire you?” You will have about 20 seconds of the hiring (or personnel) manager’s time to address your market value.

Key in on accomplishments, credentials and/or qualifications that are unique or that favourably differentiate you from other candidates.

Avoid fluff. Ambiguities, vagueness, and generalities represent fluff and render a CV inept.

Be different. Be courageous and’ exciting. Take calculated risks e.g. oversized and coloured paper for your CV will help make it stand out!

Follow the Five ‘P’s for creating a successful CV: Packaging, Positioning, Punch (Power Information), Personality, and Professionalism.

Add a photograph to your CV and do not forget to put your name and address on the back. Use a high-quality, recent photograph.

Positive thinking produces positive results. If you think you are too old, under-qualified, over-qualified, over-educated, under-educated, too shy, too serious or too tired – you are. Intuitive interviewers are able to sense that impression in your writing and during an interview. Overcome weaknesses with offsetting strengths. Overwhelm hiring managers with these strengths, showing genuine emotion, and it will render the negatives insignificant.

Searching for a job takes energy, and jobs are offered to high-energy candidates. Your job search begins with writing your CV, long before the first interview. The words you write must portray this energy to the person reading your CV. It must exhibit desire, and demonstrate your commitment to achieving your goals. Your CV must show emotion!

‘Target audience’ is a buzz-phrase in advertising and selling, and is applicable to CV writing also. Define your target audience – the people or the companies who will receive your CV. Your CV is your advertisement and strategy is the keyword for its development. Are you targeting large corporations or small companies? Will your CV be read by a person or a computer scanner? Are you contacting local firms or is this a national search? Once you define your target audience, you must construct the document to fit the expectations of that audience.

There’s no need to use the pronoun “I” in your CV, unless you want to be a little more personal with your document. However, I strongly recommend you avoid using the third person. It gives the appearance that someone, other than you, wrote it and submitted it on your behalf.

Salary history or compensation requirements should not appear on the CV. Your CV is a sales tool used to define your qualifications, and to explain how you will use these skills to contribute to your potential employer’s business. It is a summary of accomplishments that show how you can benefit an organisation, not bow much you will cost. The covering letter is designed for this purpose, and then, only if required.

Just as salt goes with pepper, your CV requires a cover letter. Most hiring authorities place a high degree of importance on the cover letter. Many will not even consider reading a CV without one.

If you are a graduating student or have been out of the work force for a while, you must make a special effort to convey high-emotion, potential, motivation, and energy. Stress qualitative factors and leadership roles in the community, on campus or elsewhere. By employing a degree of creativity and innovation in your job search, you are communicating to a hiring authority that you can be resourceful, innovative, and a contributing team member.

Employment gaps, job-hopping and educational deficiencies can be effectively handled by using the combination or functional format. See the section “Writing your CV” for details on using these formats.

For maximum effectiveness, maintain your CV on a computer. This makes it easier to refine, adapt, and/or adjust the document to specifically meet the job requirements of each company in which you seek employment. Clinging a word or two on your CV could result in an interview, while not doing so might render it a lost opportunity.

Industry-specific graphics are powerful visualisations on a CV demonstrating that you are true to your career goals. As long as you do not overkill the document with graphics, you can be creative and have fun with the CV. Remember to limit the use of graphics if you think that your CV will be primarily screened by computers.

Your CV must not have spelling, grammar, punctuation or typographical errors. Furthermore, it should not have been damaged or have coffee stains on it!

Once your CV is complete, regardless of whether you did it yourself or retained the services of others, TEST MARKET THE DOCUMENT BEFORE PRINTING COPIES AND DISTRIBUTING IT! Once the CV is finalised, show it to anyone with a valued opinion. Perhaps an employment professional would critique the document for you. This feedback will enable you to effectively review the document and make final edits and adjustments.

Once you have brushed up your CV check out the blog on Job Search Advice.

Finding job openings today is, in most cases, easy to do. The challenge is that for the majority of people, it is also easy not to do.

When I say that finding job openings and securing a satisfying and rewarding job are easy to do, I mean that the process is one you can easily perform. Climbing Mt. Everest might be difficult, but identifying and pursuing a career position is easy. Here’s the catch – even though the process is a series of relatively easy things to do, you must be prepared to work hard at each of them. It’s this qualification that makes the process easy not to do.

“Success comes from commitment, commitment comes from hard work, and hard work comes from focus”. ANON

Your success will come from your ability to focus!

The first steps in securing job opportunities are to:

1) Be certain of your goals.

2) Know your desired outcome.

3) Be committed to that outcome.

4) Have the burning desire and the courage to persevere and succeed.

You should have a clear idea of the environment in which you want to work, the industry you wish to pursue, and the ideal type of company you’d like to work for.

In order to identify these specific factors you will need to take an objective view of yourself and be honest. Involve family, close relations, your careers advisor and work colleagues. This will help you form an objective view of yourself and the position that best suits you.

Time is an investment

For optimum success, job satisfaction and compensation; plan to go, all out, in securing a new position. If you are unemployed, invest at least 55 hours a week in job search activities.

If you are seeking new opportunities but are currently employed full-time, invest a minimum of 5 hours a week.

If you are working part-time you should commit somewhere between 10 and 35 hours to this project. The more effort and preparation you put into the job search, the more you’ll benefit from your efforts. The degree of success you will experience as a result of your job search, is in direct proportion to the investment you make in yourself and in the process.

Strategic Options

Most employment authors and professionals state that there are a limited number of strategies you can use to wage a successful job hunt. Below is ten of the most effective methods of seeking a career opportunity. The percentages indicate the average number of people who are successful using each strategy. Of these, we will give the most attention to two: networking, the most effective tried and true approach to finding a position; and, electronic databases, the latest way employers track and select their potential employees. The Internet is growing rapidly as a medium for finding jobs!
